Jasmine Tay, founder of SkillUp.sg

A note from the founder

Hey! I’m Jasmine.

I’m the founder of SkillUp.sg and a Product Manager by trade. I’ve worked across big tech, government, and startups. Somewhere along the way, I also founded a small consumer goods brand. Careers have never been a straight line for me, and that’s part of why I built this site.

SkillUp started as a personal passion project, driven by a few things I kept noticing:

1

Textbook answers don’t cut it. I’ve had the chance to interview fresh grads and mid-career switchers, and beyond theoretical responses, the candidates who stand out always have relevant experience, personal projects, or a genuine point of view. I wanted to help more people get there.

2

Jobs are harder to land now. I was lucky enough to job-hunt during the golden era of tech, when funding and roles were abundant. It’s disheartening to see fresh grads struggling today, and I want to do something about it, even if it’s just giving people a clearer roadmap.

3

AI is changing everything. There’s no escaping how much AI has reshaped the job landscape. Even I’m feeling it and adapting along the way. SkillUp itself is built with AI, and the career guides reflect what actually matters in a world where the tools keep shifting.

4

Not everyone follows a conventional path. Some people build a living through side hustles, freelancing, or passion projects that don’t fit neatly into a job title. That’s why I added a side hustles section to the site. Not everyone needs a corporate career to thrive.

Why this site exists

There are plenty of career sites out there. But most are generic, US-centric, or feel like they were written by someone who’s never actually hired anyone. I wanted SkillUp to be different: grounded in truth and practicality, in the Singapore context. Real salary data, real skill requirements, real advice from someone who’s been on both sides of the interview table.

This is still a passion project, and it’s always evolving. If you have feedback, career suggestions, or just want to say hi, I’d genuinely love to hear from you.
